B like Body / B como Balada (2)

March 22, 2009

B like BODY : ” whole physical structure of a human being or an animal” “main part of something…”

The body of a good health care system is to have a place where patients, family members, friends can meet, seek for informations, a place where they can count with. In this drawing, the mother of a 12 year’s old boy with hemophilia shows how important is to create and maintain a Hemophilia Association active and alive.  A body alive with all his members!

And body as our physical home….let’s love our body  to be able to transform what we can and accept what we can’t change.

desenhos expressivos/ expressive drawings

During the workshop, I asked the participants to draw an event or situation that inspired them to chose working in health care.
Several drawings were about the desire to create a safe place to attend and take care of people, other was about car accidents that took away the life of a nephew….from dreams to be part of a medical care system to personal wounds of loss….

so, what did we discuss about in the workshop?

My 2 aims of this first social worker’s workshop were:

1) to desmystify the idea that it is hard to be an care giver in hemophilia

2) to start a little “suitcase” full of simple but useful informations to start working with the world of the ideas and emotions in a person and family with the blood clotting disorder. (what a looong sentence!) :)

click on the picture and ZOOM ( you can see the brochure of the Symposium, watch my mini-me when 8, the manual translated in Arabic and some answers…)

TOPICS:

a) imagine you are explaining that your son has hemophilia to a person that doesn’t have a clue about medical, genes, reading …. (simple as simple it can be)

b) confidence comes with practising, simplicity and clearness in what we do and say

c) checking informations with the group (definitions, explanations of genetic and hereditary issues, school and routine activities for the PWH, education at home)

ps: I put a picture of myself as a child because I like to maintain my “inner child” always near me when I have to be with people, it helps me to relax, have fun and be curious….like a child is.
